Jokhang Temple

Founded in the seventh century, Jokhang Temple stands at the spiritual heart of Lhasa. Its architecture brings together Tibetan, Chinese, Nepalese and Indian influences. The revered Jowo Shakyamuni image is the focus of devotion inside the temple, while pilgrims follow the Barkhor circuit outside. The historic treaty stele in front of the temple is another reminder of the site's long history.
